When Thomas Edison invented the “Wax” Cylinder Phonograph almost 150 years ago, little did he know the profound effect it would have on our world. Today we take CD, MP3 and DVD technology for granted, but few of us have the opportunity to experience the first established recording medium, the wax cylinder.

David Schnaufer’s creative vision brought forty dulcimer players together in a historic mansion with period recording equipment, and magic happened!
Step back in time at beautiful Two Rivers Mansion as David, the Grand Old Dulcimer Club, and Martin Fisher make Nashville recording history.

This project was one of dulcimer legend David Schnaufer’s last documentary works before his death in 2006. David was proud of this film, and we’re sure he’d be overjoyed with this final product.

Fifty percent of all proceeds will benefit the David Schnaufer Fund, Blair School of Music,Vanderbilt University. The fund helps continue and expand the historical research, education and awareness of the mountain dulcimer that David began at Blair in 1995.

So sit back and relax. “It’s pretty primitive and it’s pretty cool.”.
